This & That, Veteran's Day 2021
This & That
by Sue Vaught
Coming up on Thursday, Veteran’s Day. We are so blessed to have a ready Military defense for our nation, and it’s “all volunteer.” If you see a Veteran, please “thank them for their service.”
On Nov. 7 in History:
In 1944 President Franklin D. Roosevelt won an unprecedented fourth term in office, defeating Republican Thomas E. Dewey.
In 1967, Carl Stokes was elected the first black mayor of a major city – Cleveland, Ohio.
Fort Smith History:
Nov. 9, 1882: Belle and Sam Starr are charged in the U.S. Commissioner’s Court at Fort Smith with the theft of two horses.
My daughter Jamie Dornan and I were treated for her Nov. 1st Birthday. Her daughter, Laken Wilkins, made a pot of chicken and dumplings and brought them to Booneville from Clarksville. They came to Chris’ parents’ home, where several were carving pumpkins for Halloween. They were delicious. Then her son Race Dornan and wife Katie treated us at Red Lobster. Katie’s brother James was visiting here from near St. Louis, MO. We watched them climb the walls at Vertical Horizons. They had fun climbing, and we had fun “just watching.”
Happy Birthday to Mary Garman on Nov. 12, to Evelin Adams and my granddaughter Chelsea Golden. Both on Nov. 13. To Landon Rice and Kimberly Speilman both on Nov. 14, to Danna Duke on Nov. 17, to Richard Boersma and Fern Robertson both on No. 19, to Sara Harbison on the 20th, to Sabreena Alfaro Thompson on Nov. 21, to Darren McConnell and Terry & Ladonna Kelly all on Nov. 22nd. We wish you many more.
Happy Anniversary to Kenneth and Janice Parks on Nov. 21, to Cory and Sarah Chambers on Nov. 11, to Richard and Peggy Boersma on Nov. 22. We wish you many more.
We have had several mornings of frost. Cold enough to turn the heater on, but we have had some beautiful sunny days too.
The Booneville Bearcats finished the regular season by romping over the Perryville Mustangs 50-13 on Friday, Nov. 5th. Now the playoffs start Friday, Nov. 12, with Salem coming to Booneville. Go Bearcats!
Jennifer Reid and Cassie Massey visited their aunt Jean Paul while in Perryville for the ballgame.
Don’t forget the South Logan County Boys and Girls Club Bean Dinner and Pie Auction at the Meeting Place in Booneville on Sunday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 am.
Do take care, that’s all today.
