Logan County Lincoln Day Dinner 2021

The Logan County Lincoln Day Dinner was held this past Saturday evening at First National Bank Community Center in Paris. The dinner, a function of the Logan County Republican Party, was well attended, highly successful, and enjoyed by all. Logan County Chairwoman Karen Rogers made welcoming remarks, and Logan County Judge Ray Gack offered the opening prayer. Katie and Kara Massey led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. Miranda Sewell did an outstanding job of singing the National Anthem. Blake Barham, the student winner of the Logan County “What Makes a Good Citizen” Essay Contest, was also recognized. The evening was closed by Logan County Sheriff Jason Massey.

The keynote speaker of the evening was Arkansas Congressman Bruce Westerman. Westerman, who has been representing Arkansas’ Fourth District since 2013, was initially elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives in 2010. In 2012, he became the first Republican House Majority Leader in the Arkansas House of Representatives since Reconstruction, almost one hundred and fifty years ago. Having graduated from high school in Hot Springs, he attended the University of Arkansas, playing football for the Razorbacks. Westerman has very deep roots within the state that serve both he and all his constituents well. After his time at the University of Arkansas, Westerman went on to earn a Master of Forestry degree at Yale University. In Washington, D.C., Bruce currently serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and as Ranking Member of the Committee on Natural Resources. He also serves on the Minority Whip Team under the leadership of House Minority Whip Steve Scalise.

Westerman did an excellent job in sharing a message that was both informative and motivational. Bruce has become well known in his political career for championing conservative principles, lower taxes, limited government, and strong family values. Throughout his presentation, he spoke of national political trends, the challenges currently facing the Republican Party and Conservatives in general and shared the promising progress presently being made on numerous fronts. Bruce had also made a special effort to be present at Saturday evening’s event. Having been present in Washington, D.C. for a 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning vote, he had flown directly to Arkansas to be here in time for Saturday evening’s dinner.

Gail Smith Green with GG Catering provided the meal and the Paris chapter of the FFA served the meal. The students assisted throughout the evening and did an excellent job representing the Paris School District.
